Comparison sheet / A freelancer vs ContractorWebStudioHub
Hire a freelance web designer or pay monthly for a managed trade website?
Hire a freelancer when you know a good one, want a one-time project you pay for once, and have a plan for updates after launch. Choose a managed site when you want the build, hosting, speed, articles and every future change covered by one monthly fee, with the build fee charged only after you approve the site.
Short verdict A trusted freelancer wins for a one-off project you own outright. The managed site wins for everything that happens after launch.
01 The other option
What is hiring a freelancer?
A freelance web designer or developer builds your site as a project, usually for a quoted fee, on whatever platform they prefer. Hosting, updates and changes after launch are arranged separately, often by the hour.
02 Comparison schedule
A freelancer vs a managed trade website, line by line
Twelve things that decide whether a contractor website earns calls. Their column describes the option in general terms; check their site for current details.
| What matters | A freelancer | ContractorWebStudioHub |
|---|---|---|
| Speed and Core Web Vitals | Depends entirely on the freelancer and the platform they choose. | Custom-coded pages on Cloudflare's edge, 90+ PageSpeed guaranteed on mobile and desktop. |
| SEO control | Depends on their skills. Some are strong in SEO, many focus on design. | Page-per-service and page-per-town structure, titles, descriptions, internal links and sitemaps set by us. |
| Schema markup (JSON-LD) | Added if the freelancer knows to add it. | Organization, Service, FAQPage and BreadcrumbList structured data generated on every page. |
| Answer engine and AI assistant readiness | Rarely part of a design brief unless you ask for it. | Answer-first copy, FAQ blocks, llms.txt and consistent business facts written in from launch. |
| Hosting and security | Arranged separately, by you or through the freelancer. | Cloudflare hosting, SSL, CDN and DDoS protection inside the monthly fee. |
| Maintenance burden | Ends at handover unless you agree a care plan or hourly rate. | None for you. Weekly updates by us, no plugins or themes to patch. |
| Who does the work | One person, which is great until they are busy, ill or move on. | Our team: build, updates and 5 revisions a month, each within 2 to 5 working days. |
| Articles and ongoing content | Usually not included. Articles are a separate cost or your job. | 2 to 3 researched articles a week, 2,500 to 3,200 words each, depending on plan. |
| Design built for your trade | Can be excellent. Trade knowledge varies. | Page set chosen for your trade: emergency pages, galleries, maintenance plans, license display. |
| Accessibility and compliance pages | Policy pages are often templated or left to you. | Privacy, terms, cookie consent that gates scripts and an accessibility statement come with the site. |
| Cost model | A project fee, often part paid up front, then hourly or monthly for changes. | $127 to $647 a month, plus a $697 build fee invoiced only after launch. |
| Lock-in and ownership | Often you own the files outright. Check the contract. | Domain registered in your name, content exported to you within 14 days if you leave, no yearly contract. |
03 Fair call
When hiring a freelancer is the better fit
You know a freelancer whose work and reliability you trust.
You want a one-time project and prefer to own every file outright.
You have someone in-house who will handle updates after launch.
You need something unusual that a managed plan does not cover.
04 Our call
When a managed trade site wins
You have been burned by a freelancer who went quiet halfway through a project.
You do not want to pay a large build fee before seeing a finished site.
You want changes done within 2 to 5 working days for years, not just at launch.
You want hosting, articles, updates and revisions in one predictable fee.
05 Sequence
Taking over from a freelancer
If your freelancer has moved on, we rebuild the site in our system, keep the design and content that work, redirect every old URL and take over the domain pointing. You get one team and one monthly fee from then on.
- 01
Collect your domain login and any hosting access you have.
- 02
We rebuild the site and add the service and town pages it was missing.
- 03
Old URLs redirect to their new pages.
- 04
We switch the domain and you can close the old hosting account.

07 Client notes
What contractors say after switching
Property managers and homeowners wanted different things from us, and now they each land on a page written for them. The site opens instantly on my phone, which the old one never did.
We used to have one electrical services page. Now panel upgrades, EV chargers and rewiring each have their own page, and callers mention the page they found before they even ask about price.
Illustrative sample reviews: names, businesses and quotes show the kind of outcome clients describe and are not real customers. Verified reviews replace them once clients agree to be named.
Hiring a freelancer vs ContractorWebStudioHub: questions
Is a freelancer cheaper than a managed plan?
Sometimes up front, often not over time once hosting, updates and hourly changes are added. Our plans run $127 to $647 a month with a $697 build fee charged only after launch.
What if I already paid a freelancer and the site is half built?
We start fresh in our own system, using any content and photos worth keeping. Our build fee is invoiced only once your site is live and approved, so you are not paying up front again.
Who owns the site with you versus a freelancer?
With us, your domain and your content are yours, and we export your content within 14 days if you leave. The design and code stay ours, which is what keeps the monthly fee lower than a custom project. Many freelancers hand over files, so check your contract.
Can a freelancer and your team work together?
Not on the same site. We build and run the site ourselves so the speed guarantee and revision turnaround stay ours to keep.
What happens when I need a change?
You raise it in your client portal and it is done within 2 to 5 working days. 5 revisions are included each month, then $20 each.
Do freelancers write articles?
Some do, usually at extra cost. Every one of our plans includes researched articles each week.
What if my freelancer holds my domain?
Ask them to transfer it to you. If that is difficult, tell us during onboarding and we help you through the registrar's transfer steps.
Is a managed plan a long contract?
No. There is no yearly lock-in. You cancel with notice at least 2 business days before your next invoice and the site runs to the end of the paid month.
